The Importance Of Personal Goal Setting

The Importance of Personal Goal Setting – Running or Scampering

There is a big difference between scampering and running. Sure, they’re both actions designed to make a person move fast, but the difference lies in goal setting. When a person scampers, it is without purpose. A person who is scampering moves to no purpose. It is an action performed instinctively. However, a person who runs does it to achieve a goal. Which one do you prefer to do?

No matter how much effort you make, if you do not have direction, you will be wasting your energy. How can one have direction without a goal? Goal setting is important because it is the first step towards a journey. People may think that we started out without having any real goals, but let us examine life for a moment: When a sperm is first released, it has a goal, does it not? It swims towards the egg.  This goal gives it direction.

As we mature in life, our goals get bigger and more ambitious. However, we still set goals. Goal setting is an inherent part of life. It answers the question of purpose. It tells us why we have to live, if only until the next day.

As mentioned before, goal actually gives us direction. For without goals, where would we direct our efforts to? Goal setting is the key and essentially gives us the first step in our individual journeys.

Think of it: When you set a goal, you try to follow the most direct route towards it. So you take the first few steps towards achieving that goal. In setting a goal, you will always have the first step. However, in life, we encounter little detours. Sometimes, in order to reach our set goal, we must first accomplish another one.

Goal setting is the key to achieving success in life. If you set goals, you will be able to know which steps to take. Setting goals does not mean you make a list on what to do or what not to do. That would merely be the semblance of goal setting. True goal setting involves commitment.

In true goals setting you need to be able to put your heart into it and commit yourself to achieving that goal. From the moment you set a goal, every effort you make will be directed towards the achievement of that goal.

Goal setting is important in life because it allows you to measure yourself. Nobody knows why measuring one’s self is so important. Perhaps it has something to do with self-improvement. Sometimes it has something to do with the realization that you are doing something in life. However, goal setting will allow you to measure yourself by how close you are to achieving a goal. Through proper goal setting, you will be able to see just how far you’ve come and how far you will still be able to go.

Another importance of goal setting is that it allows you to know your purpose in life. Goal setting will prevent you from questioning your existence. Sure, some people find wisdom in questioning the meaning of life, but people who do not find answers to this question often end up in despair.

Goal setting gives you order.

If there is one thing that people seek in life more than food, clothing, or shelter, it would be order.

Wishing you and yours a very healthy and happy New Year!

Personal Growth and Self Esteem

Self-esteem is how you view yourself. Though this may seem as just one of several aspects that make a person human, it is a vital part of the puzzle. You would be surprised how much a healthy or even lack thereof of self-esteem could change the way a person lives his life.

Generally, a person with a healthy self-esteem looks at things in a positive way. He is quick to make decisions and are not afraid to make mistakes. He or she do not look at mistakes as failures at all, in fact, he or she views this as an opportunity to make him or her a better person. There can never be enough room for improvement in a person who has a healthy self-esteem.

Although, self-esteem development starts from the ages one to five, (as this is the stage where human beings are more impressionable) it is never too late to start trying to improve this in you. Just because we never had a happy childhood or if we have been subjected to certain traumas in our younger years, this does not mean that we are destroyed for life. No. We can always choose to take control of our live regardless of age or situation as long as we decide to do it, we can.

Although attending therapy, sessions or seminars are always good to bolster self-esteem, these are not the only ways. If these things involve money which you just do not have enough of, you can always do it at your own time. At your own phase. One of the easiest things to do is stock up on self-esteem qoutes.

Take on that strikes you and concentrate on it. Try to take it to heart and make a resolution to live by it. Take on qoute one a week or once a month and try to live by it. But do not hasten changes. Let it come at its own time. Patience and trust in your ability is the key.

To help you with this, listed below are self-esteem lessons from famous people who have succeeded because they know the importance of self-esteem.

“Low self-esteem is like driving through life with your hand-break on.” – Maxwell Maltz

“The average estimate themselves by what they do, the above average by what they are.” – Johann Friedrich Von Schiller

“The foundation of lasting self-confidence and self esteem is excellence, mastery of your work.” – Brian Tracy

“The man who trims himself to suit everybody will soon whittle himself away.“ – Charles Schwab

“The will to do springs from the knowledge that we can do.“ – James Allen

“To establish true self-esteem we must concentrate on our successes and forget about the failures and the negatives in our lives.” – Denis Waitley

“Nothing profits more than self-esteem, grounded on what is just and right.” – John Milton

“Outstanding leaders go out of their way to boost the self-esteem of their personnel. If people believe in themselves, it’s amazing what they can accomplish.” – Sam Walton

“Respect yourself if you would have others respect you.” – Baltasar Gracian

“Self-pity gets you nowhere. One must have the adventurous daring to accept oneself as a bundle of possibilities and undertake the most interesting game in the world making the most of one’s best.” – Harry Emerson Fosdick

“Sooner or later, those who win are those who think they can.” – Richard Bach

“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” – Albert Einstein

Achieving Self Growth

Achieving Self Growth

We live in a competitive environment and that calls for a little something extra from all of us. Simply having a college degree does not seem to be as important as before, anymore, as most workplaces look for hirees and candidates that have an additional skill or interest before they take them under their wings.

Whether it’s a proficiency in a particular software or a fluency in more than one language, employers are now obviously more impressed with someone with longer credentials.

Self growth, however, does not just mean being equipping one’s self with additional office-related skills. It can also entail learning another hobby, like knitting, candle-making, or carpentry, or participating in a new group, like Greenpeace, a dance troupe, or a drama class. Whatever it is, it’s goal is to help you achieve or learn something greater than what you already know and have.

Everyone would want to improve themselves. There isn’t anybody in this world who would refuse an opportunity to be better at something, given man’s nature of being always dissatisfied with his or her personal circumstances. Someone somewhere in the world would definitely like to have a better life, dream of getting a new car, fantasize about learning how to swim or do water ballet and imagine being able to multiply three digit numbers in less than 10 seconds.

In addition, self growth is also a quest to get recognized and appreciated more. People are often dissatisfied with themselves and what they have because they feel envious of other people’s fortune. They seek to improve themselves because they want to be at the spotlight even for just a short time, or, if they don’t like that much attention, at least have somebody pat them on the back and tell them they have done a good job.

It is a way to reassure oneself that his or her capacity to learn is not limited and that he or she has the ability to advance and grow if only he or she puts his or her mind and heart into the undertaking.

Self growth is not about beating everyone else in the game of life. It means being happy and satisfied with one’s self. It means that life actually has a lot more to offer all of us than what we are currently enjoying – and that we have the ability to achieve this if we work at it.
